What is the difference between sorbet and sherbet? When I looked it up it seemed sorbet was completely dairy free (typically made of fruit, water and sugar), while sherbet contained some dairy. While this Cherry Chocolate Chip Sorbet is completely dairy free, I did add in some coconut milk for a little extra creaminess, so I’m sticking to my judgement of calling this a sorbet!

When we were traveling through Tuscany, Italy, we had the opportunity to get a tour of the region from an Italian friend ours who knew the area like the back of his hand. Not only did we get to see some beautiful places, like these amazing hot springs, but Rafaele also showed us how to make some simple Italian dishes that tasted better than anything we’ve ever had in a restaurant.
On one of the nights, he served us sliced fresh apricots with this creamy cheese and a basil leaf. The most simple, yet delicious little bite! I knew I had to recreate it once I got home.
I recently saw a beautiful image by Judy Kim, a food photographer whose work I absolutely admire. It was a delicious yogurt bowl with raspberry compote and cara cara oranges on this gorgeous pink backdrop. I had a pink backdrop that was sitting in the corner of my studio space for a while. I was just too hesitant to attempt to use it. I mean it’s a pretty bold choice to shoot food on. However, after seeing that Judy’s image, I knew I wanted to finally break it out and get over myself!
It’s been interesting to look at back at some of my earlier photos on my Instagram page. Most of my shots were on white or grey backgrounds. After our six-week honeymoon, traveling around Portugal, Spain, Italy and France, I was so inspired by the bold and beautiful colors of the architecture everywhere we went. My vision for my shoots have changed so much as a result of that trip.
When Johann and I were traveling through Europe this summer, the temperatures were soaring! It got close to 100 degrees Fahrenheit in some of the cities. Neither of us drink alcohol very much so we were always looking for a refreshing, delicious non-alcoholic beverage that would cool us down.
I remember the first time I heard of socca – a French gluten-free, vegan savory pancake. I was intrigued and so excited to try making it. After the first time, I was hooked! What I love most about socca is that you can flavor it any which way you want and top it with anything as well – so the variations are endless. I even made mini socca tortillas and used them as soft tacos!
Since getting back from Europe, I’ve been committed to cooking at home more. It’s so easy to just stop for a quick bite on the way home, but after a while it adds up – and six weeks in Europe did too! Home cooked meals just taste better to me and my husband too. We love our nightly routine of eating dinner at home and then curling up on the couch to watch a show or movie. Speaking of… what are your favorite shows right now?
