When Johann and I were traveling through Europe this summer, the temperatures were soaring! It got close to 100 degrees Fahrenheit in some of the cities. Neither of us drink alcohol very much so we were always looking for a refreshing, delicious non-alcoholic beverage that would cool us down.
Lemonade or some variant of it seemed to always be an option on most menus, and we certainly had our fair share of it! So when I got the opportunity to participate in the #SummerFunWeekCollab on Instagram, hosted by Monique Polanco (@peaches2peaches), I knew I wanted to make some fresh lemonade!
To bring in some of the flavors I love to cook with, I decided to make a Ginger Turmeric Coconut Lemonade! The spicy ginger is such a nice complement to the tart lemons and sweet coconut water. There is just enough turmeric to offer a hint of flavor, without getting too overpowering, and it lends a beautiful vibrant color to the lemonade too! Lastly, the coconut water adds a bit of sweetness, but doesn’t take away from the lemon and ginger flavors.
When I was thinking of how I wanted to shoot this, I knew I wanted to play with some hard light. I typically use softer light in my photos but I really love a challenge! After taking some initial process shots indoors, I decided to take my setup outside and I really love the quality of light and shadows I got. I will definitely be playing around a lot more with this in the future!
